We'd like to announce that the 13th Tour of the Fireflies will be happening on April 17, 2011.

The 2011 theme will be "BICYCLE REVOLUTION!"
We believe that we should seriously consider the situation we have in our midst.

Traffic sa kalsada na nag-mumukha nang parking lot ang EDSA. MMDA Chair Tolentino, kaya pa ba?

Usok, usok, halos di makahinga sa kapal ng usok. The #1 ailment we have in the Metro Manila is actually lung related, children being the most affected.

Komplikadong problema? Ano solusyon?

Lakihan ang mga kalye? Pupunuin lang yan ng mas marami pang kotse!

Naniniwala kami na kailangang baguhin ng kaunti (actually marami) ang ating paradigm sa pagharap sa problema sa traffic at polusyon sa hangin. Sumusuporta ang Firefly Brigade na ipatupad na po ang Environmentally Sustainable Transportation (EST) plan para sa Metro Manila. Meron nang plano nyan ang DOTC at DENR. Kasama dito ang developement ng efficient and clean mass transports systems tulad the mga trains at LRT, BRT (bus rapid transit).

At syempre naniniwala ang Firefly Brigade na kailangang kasama sa implementasyon ng kahit na anong EST plan ang Non-Motorized Transportation (NMT), pangunahin na po ang BISIKLETA. Isang simpleng solusyon sa napakakumplikadong problema.

Fantasy? Dreaming? Not!
Its happening all over the world. Different countries are taking a second, third and fourth look as well as putting up bike lanes, bike parking, bike to work and bike to school programs and integrating bikeways offices into their transportation and infrastructure development offices, may bike tourism pa. Di lang sa Europa at US nangyayari yan, kundi sa iba pang bansa sa Asya and other thirld world countries sa mundo.

Tulad ni P'noy, we'd like the Philippines to catch up with our other Asean neighbors. The Philippines is such a beautiful country with very beautiful and hardworking people. We'd like the quality of life that we have to get better, not only economically.

We'd like to be able to breathe cleaner air!
We'd like to spend more time with family and friends and not spend 3-4 hours a day in traffic.
We'd like to be able to ride our bicycles!

hindi pa confirmed pero sabi baka daw katulad nung isang taon ang start.

at ito daw ang ruta (42 kms):
Pasig -> San Juan -> QC -> Manila -> Pasay then back to Pasig.

wala pang idea kung saan ang magandang kitaan pero siguro yung accessible sa lahat ng mga gustong sumama na manggagaling sa iba't-ibang parts ng Metro-Manila (North, South, Downtown Manila, etc.).
kung hindi naman posible yun, sa may mismong Tiendesitas na lang. kuha na lang siguro ng isang spot dun para sa meeting place ng mga punx

UPDATED route:
This year's tour will traverse 6 Metropolitan Cities (Pasig - San Juan - Quezon City - Manila - Pasay - Mandaluyong). The total distance is approximately 42 kms. which will take around 4 to 5 hours to complete at a relaxed pace of 12-15 kph.

The route for this year's tour:

Start: Frontera Drive, Tiendesitas

1. Frontera Drive (Tiendesitas) exit towards Ortigas Ave.
2. U-turn to Ortigas Ave towards EDSA
3. Cross EDSA straight through Ortigas Ave. towards N. Domingo St.
4. Right at N. Domingo St. towards Hemady Ave.
5. Left at Hemady Ave. towards E. Rodriguez Ave.
6. Left at E. Rodriguez Ave. towards Welcome Rotonda
7. U-Turn at Welcome Rotonda towards Espana Blvd.
8. Straight through Espana Blvd. all the way to Lerma (Morayta)
9. Right at Lerma St. towards Quezon Blvd.
10. Left at Quezon Blvd. through the underpass towards Quiapo
11. Cross Quezon Bridge into Lawton towards Padre Burgos St.
12. Straight through Padre Burgos St. towards Roxas Blvd.
13. Through Morayta towards Recto Ave.
14. Left at Recto Ave. towards Legarda St.
15. Right at Legarda St. towards Ayala Bridge
16. Cross Ayala Bridge into Ayala Blvd. towards Taft Ave.
17. Cross Taft Ave. into Finance St. towards Padre Burgos St.
18. Left at Padre Burgos St. towards Roxas Blvd.
19. Left at Roxas Blvd. towards CCP
20. Left at Bukaneg St. (CCP) to enter CCP Complex
21. Stop-over at Vicento Sotto St. (Star City Side)
22. Right at Vicente Sotto St. (Star City Side) to enter CCP Complex.
23. Stop over at Bukaneg St. (CCP)

Rest and Stop at CCP. There will be a 1-hour program.

Going back to Tiendesitas:

Route back is almost similar passing through the same streets except for the length of E. Rodriguez Ave. where the peloton will turn right at Gilmore to head back towards Ortigas Ave. on the way to Tiendesitas.
