i don't think the thread starter refers to the incorporation of 'metal' sa hardcore/punk but more on the promotion of metal shows and/or metal merchandise dito sa forum.

metal caused quite a stir nung una 'tong inintroduce sa 'strict' musical discipline ng punk/hardcore. knee-jerk reaction ng mga tao is to hate the band and/or dismiss them as sellouts at kung anu-ano pa. pero looking back di ba "punk rock" na maituturing ang ginawa nilang pag-challenge sa norm back then?
try to checkout Amebix's "Monolith," Bad Brains' "I against I" Agnostic Front's "One Voice," and (gulp!) Discharge's "Grave New World"
also, checkout ANY releases ng Judge and try to listen to the guitar riffs. now kung hindi metal yun ewan ko na kung ano ang tawag dun, hehe!
even them Fat Wreck and Epitaph bands has metal 'in em!

being the thread starter, I did mean it like what you said,
the promotion of metal shows/bands (especially commercial metal) on this forum defeats the forum's purpose and ethic.
I did start this thread almost as a joke though for I myself, do enjoy some metal every now and then.
One thing that metal lacks (for me) is raw, juvenile creativity.
When bands start out (most) play punk because that is all they are capable of. When these bands gain some form of musicianship they naturally progress to more aggressive and challenging music (metal) but that initial fury is lost in the transition.

Ex:
Bad Brains ROIR Sessions WAY better than the "Quickness"
AF - Victim in Pain WAY better than the hatebreed carbon copies they have released.
and no one but heroin addicts trapped in their glam metal heydays like Discharge's GNW.

I think what the forum needs is more and more hardcore and not less metal but less bullshit.

to an outsider there's a thin line that separates punk and metal just like the thin line that separates revolutionaries and terrorist. which is which e bahala na kayo.

here in the philippines, metal and punk can get along easily coz the scene is small and there's no really big metal bands here that tour with their own coaster(?) or bus(?), make millions or in short gets rich with their music. So class level remains the same and conflict tolerable.

For me metal is good but punk is great. metal can be the artisan, the skilled craftsman while punk will be the artist that loves to express what's in their mind in their art no matter how the public perceives it.
If metal were a fruit it can be a cherry or an apple, but punk cant be a fruit but can be any vegetable where its accessible, easy and simple to cook, but only a few would prefer it compared to meat or even commit to have it as their only food for life or be a vegan.
