350 Now, Pilipinas! kicked off its 10/10/10 campaign with three education workshops at Assumption College in Makati City, Philippines. The activity commenced with a presentation on 350.org and autonomous grassroots social movements. This was followed by a screening of the documentary, The Story of Stuff, and then by a discussion of the film as it relates to capitalism, consumerism, and ecology.
For our main 10/10/10 event, we are going to have environmental talks, workshops, and films. We will also have music and a vegetarian feast. We encourage everyone to bring their own water bottles/ containers as we endeavor this activity to be a disposables-free, zero-waste event.
We are collecting EMPTY and CLEAN sachets (toothpaste, deodorant, hair products, detergent, etc.) to donate to a contact from the UP School of Fine Arts who is creating an 8-ft. art installation out of these for her thesis project.
10/10/10 is the day the world gathers to celebrate climate solutions, and to show delegates to the December UNFCCC COP16 (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - Conference of Parties 16) in Mexico that they too, should seriously work on (1) putting 350 ppm on the agenda and (2) producing an ambitious, fair, and binding climate treaty. Join us!

Still wondering about 350?
"350.org is an international grassroots campaign that aims to mobilize a global climate movement united by a common call to action. By spreading an understanding of the science and a shared vision for a fair policy, we will ensure that the world creates bold and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.350.org is an independent and not-for-profit project" (350.org).
What is 350? 350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Scientists measure carbon dioxide in "parts per million" (ppm), so 350ppm is the number humanity needs to get below as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. To get there, we need a different kind of PPM-a "people powered movement" that is made of of people like you in every corner of the planet" (350.org).
